DEPARTMENT OF ZOOLOGY AND AQUACULTURE

About the Department

P.G. Department of Zoologyhas been started course and established in the academic year of2005 - 2006, with an intake of 27 students who were admitted through AUCET followed bycentralized counseling. As per the guidelines prescribed by UGC and College DevelopmentCouncil (A.U.). With the advent of the newly established university in Godavari Districts, the affiliation for all PG courses has been transferred from Andhra University to Adikavi Nannaya University, Rajamahendravaram from the academic year 2016-17 admitted batch. From the academic year 2022-2023 introduced M.Sc. Aquaculture in the same department and now named as Department of Zoology and Aquaculture.

The department is currently headed by Dr. U.D.V.P.Pulla Rao, M.Sc., Ph.D., M.A.(Psychology),B.Ed., LLB. The department exists with 3 lecture halls, 3 labs, museum, animalhouse and experimental lab foraquaculture practices.

Apart from the teaching both faculty and students are engaged in extension programs.Students enrolled in this department are mostly from the rural areas. So the faculty turnsthem, with theirteaching techniques and methods of implementation of the class roomtheory, to form the base line for rural development. Thus the department offers ampleopportunities of students to study and getinvolved in nation building activities through whicheventually they become responsible citizens withgood careers. The department is trainingpost graduate students in Zoology and Aquaculture incorporating latestdevelopments in all the areas of LifeSciences including the present thrust area of Bio-informatics, Biotechnology, Microbiologyand Aquaculture. The college has well equipped Museums for Botany, Zoology and Aquaculture,E class rooms were arranged for the sake of all the science students.  A seminar hall with A/c. facilities was also arranged for the academic deliberations.

3. Participation of teachers in academic and personal counseling of students.

A batch of 10 students are allotted to each lecturer as part of Ward CounselingSystem. The mentor helps the students to understand the organization culture. Providesguidance on personal issues and guides him to choose Certificate / Add on programsoffered in the institution. The mentor points out strengths and weaknesses of each student.Helps the students to set long term career goals and short term learning objectives toenable them to perform effectively.
