ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Zoology has come into existence on 1st July, 1978in Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parameswari and Dr. Kalidindi Suryanarayana Raju Arts and Science College has been established in 1974 by the SVKP Arts and Science College Association. The department has witnessed tremendous growth during the last 47 years as a result of the strenuous efforts putting by the faculty who were dedicated to achieve and sustain rich levels of academic excellence. The department has spacious accommodation furnished with well equipped laboratories, excellent Museum to meet all the requirements of higher learning of its students. The department has earned the status of a model faculty of its kind in the entire University area with its high academic standards, best infrastructure facilities, congenial atmosphere and systematic approach of teaching and learning.
It is not an exaggeration to say that it is the liberal funding and best managerial organization enable the department to be what it is today.
Department is offering Zoology for B. Sc., students at Under Graduate level since 1978 with BZC( Botany, Zoology, Chemistry) & CZBT (Chemistry, Zoology& Biotechnology) combinations earlier. Now the department is offering Major Zoology and Minor Zoology for B.Sc students.
The Objectives And Goals Of The Department
- To provide quality education in animal science, fostering research skills, and promoting conservation awareness.
- To equip students with a strong foundation in animal structure, function, and behavior, train them in scientific methodologies, and prepare them for careers in fields like health sciences, environmental management, and research.
- To Foster empathy and love for animals and the natural world
- To Inculcate entrepreneurial skills and motivate students to pursue self-employment in applied branches of zoology.
- To make the subject a study of utility that can generate income.
Highlights
- Department conducted a State level workshop on “Strategies for Sustainable Aquaculture” on 31-8-2010 with the financial assistance of the Management, SVKP Arts & Science College Association, Penugonda. Representatives of CIFE, NaCSA, CIFA, MPEDA, SIFT attended the Workshop.
- The department actively involving in research activities like publications and research projects. UGC Minor Research Project was completed and Submitted on 22/06/2014 by Dr. K.Lakshmi Kantamma.
- Department conducted various Certificate Courses on “Clinical Laboratory Techniques”, ‘Hatchery Management’ vemi composting etc.
- The faculty members along with students participated in the following Society Outreach Programmes like Identification of Blood grouping in a rural area of Seshammacheruvu, Immunization programme , Awareness programme on chicken gunya and dengue fever, Immunization programme, Survey and analysis on filariasis in penugonda. And the department conducting field visits to the students every year
- Department conducted an Essay Writing competitions on “Blue Revolution” and ‘’Traditional Values in Youth’’ for B.Sc., & M.Sc., Zoology and Biotechnology students.
- Well established, impressive and motivated Museum with rare specimens.
- Thought provoking teaching aids like LCD projector, ohp projectors with transparencies of the physiology set of 50, projection slides album for pathology, bio sets with teaching notes.
- Sophisticated laboratory equipment.
- The department included the following in curriculum to inspire the endeavors of the merit students in their academic pursuit.
