The Department of Physics came into existence in the year 1978 with Sri V. Narasimhacharyulu who was the founder faculty member and Head of the Department. By his untiring efforts the department expanded in all directions. He shouldered the responsibility for introducing restructure courses like Mathematics, Physics and Electronics (MPE) in 1984 and Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science (MPCs) in 1987 and Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (MPC-English Medium) in 2002. He was also responsible for the two departments Electronics and Computer Science and developed them to a maximum extent. The entire credit goes to tenure as Head of the Departments sriV.Narasimhacharyulu, sriK.S.R.P.KumarJohn , Faculty and Non –Teaching of Dept.of Physics from 1978 to 2018.  Subsequently Sri S.Srinivasa Rao took charge as In-charge of the department.

The Management of the college under the able leadership of Sri P.Suryanaranagaru,Sri.K. Ramachandra Raju garu , Sri V.Lavakumargaru and other Governing body members has been extending constant support in the development of the Department.

1.SCHOOL EXTENSION  PROGRAMME :

Faculty of Physics Department along with their students visited neighbouring schools and demonstrated simple experiments in Physics to motivate school students for better understanding and learning of basic concepts in Physics.

  1. OBSERVANCE OF NATIONAL DAYS :

I.National Science Day was observed on 28thFebruary to motivate the students towards Basic Sciences and its importance.

  1. International yoga day was conducted on 21st June.

3.INSPIRE CAMPS :

The institution organized three Five day workshop INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) camps sponsored by DST (Department of Science and Technology), Government of India, New Delhi, for attraction of talent in science. One of the faculty acted as organising secretary for the above three INSPIRE camps.

4.VALUE ADDITION:

As a part of value addition, students of the Department of Physics explained basic questions in daily life to non physics students to bring awareness about science.

  • The students of physics department distributed pamphlets on i) Hazards on Sound Pollution and ii)Discouraging the usage of plastic bags in and around Penugonda on as part of society out reach programme to concentrating on Eco Friendly Measures.
  • To Inculcate civic responsibility among the students ,the department of Physics (Faculty and Students )participated Swatchh Bharat Programme , Clean and Green and  VanamManam Programme along with NSS Units on every third Saturday of the month and also participated in awareness rallies.

Strengths :

  • The Department has Modern and Sophisticated Labs equipped with Optical Bench, Dual Trace Cathode Ray Oscilloscope (APLAB), Signal Generators (APLAB), Digital Multimeters (APLAB) etc.,
  • Well experienced faculty having M. Phil., and SLET.

Weaknesses :

  • Lack of exclusive Non-Teaching Staff members (Skilled, Technical) in the Department.
  • Students with below average Communication Skills.

 Opportunities :

  • The department is providing special coaching for students who are pursuing higher studies for entrance examinations like I-CET, NANNAYACET, AUCET.
  • Increasing employment opportunities.

 Challenges :

  • As most of the students are from rural background without any basic subject knowledge and lack of communication skills, it is challenging for the staff members to achieve good pass percentage.
  • The Department is trying hard to obtain MOUs from the different organizations.
  • To continue the certificate course.
  • To develop the Physics Lab by introducing new and sophisticated equipment to conduct research.
  •  To conduct a National seminar with the financial assistance of UGC, New Delhi
