The Department of English was established in the year 1974 with the under graduate courses of B.A., B. Com., and B. Sc. Ever since the inception of the college, the department flourishes with the support of philanthropic management and well experienced faculty. The Department stands like a rock in the college administration and official correspondence. All the circulars, magazines and other important documents have been contributed by the department. The Department generates interest among the students to study English Literature and language in higher studies.

The alumni of the college occupied important positions in various fields in the state as well as Central Government. Most of them are lecturers, teachers, Sub Inspectors of Police, Circle Inspectors Police, IT professionals etc. Some of them are maintaining their own establishments.

The Department is active in organizing UGC sponsored Seminars and Workshops both at State and National Level. Recently the department organized a two day UGC sponsored National Seminar on “Human Rights Education- Perspectives and Prospects” in collaboration with the Department of Political Sciences in August, 2016. The department by eminent Professors organizes Guest lectures twice in every year.

The Department has a well established Language Laboratory with internet facility. The Department offers a UGC sponsored Career Orientation Course (Certificate Course) in “Communicative English.”

The Department has produced 40 successful batches under the affiliation of Andhra University, Visakhapatnam and 02 batches under Adikavi Nannya University, Rajamahendravaram which was established in 2006 and to which the affiliation of the college has been transferred during the academic year 2012-2013. The Department also handles Communication & Soft Skills as Foundation Course subject being prescribed in the CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) and Semester System by the Affiliating University and APSCHE, Hyderabad.

Mr. K. Sasikumar, one of the trios of the faculty is acting as Head of the Department. In the backdrop he had been a successful warden for men’s hostel of the college for a decade. In brief he shoulders the department in all aspects. The Department is generous in extending support to the poor students in respect of paying their examination fee etc.

OBJECTIVES AND SPECIFIC GOALS

  • To widen the students understanding about the prospects of English Language and English Literature
  • To sensitise the students from rural slang to Global hub
  • To develop in them the ability to understand English
  • To prepare them to face various competitive examinations and to enable them for admission into post-graduate courses
